Frequently Asked Questions

What is Fuji Crystal Archive & Kodak Metallic Print?

A Fuji Crystal Archive & Kodak Metallic Print is actual photographic paper that is exposed with a digital enlarger and processed in RA-4 chemistry. It is a favorite of demanding professional photographers because of its superb rendering of the colors of nature: blues, greens, and reds; its familiar surface texture; and it has the longest display life of any RA-4 photo paper. Metallic Paper is the prime paper choice for all subjects and styles of photography.

Kozal prefers pearl surface due to its unique properties. Fuji Pearl & Kodak Metallic brings the luster and depth of mother-of-pearl to the print, with natural mica and metal oxides in the paper. It creates a look unlike traditional photo paper, which increases its impact on viewing.

What is a metal print?

A selection of images are offered as a metal print. Metal prints are created using a dye-sublimation process. A print is made using dye-sublimation inks on a sheet of transfer paper, which is then placed onto an aluminum panel that is coated with a special polymer. A heat press is used to apply pressure at about 400 degrees Fahrenheit that causes the dye to be embedded right onto the surface of the metal. Due to this unique process the images appear to be illuminated from behind allowing the image to take on an almost magical luminescence.

Metal prints are glassless and frameless and float ½" from the wall. No need to buy a frame; it is ready for immediate hanging. These works are easy to care for since the surface is ultra-hard and scratch-resistant. Fingerprints wipe off easily with a microfiber cloth. They can also be cleaned with any commercial glass cleaner and soft cloth. Like any fine art print, metal prints should not be exposed to direct sunlight or high outdoor temperatures.
